Morphinomaniac

Inspired by Eugene-Samuel Grasset, Morphinomaniac

Look at her wide-open and bright eyes
Trying to talk and tell a story.
A story that the present denies,
And the past claims as a mystery.

Deep thoughts weigh heavily on her mind,
Her body bears the scars of a lifetime.
Lonely in this place of unhappy peace she is longing
For a quick fix, for a fleeting moment of prime.

That young beautiful woman with the long dark hair
is our friend, our sister, our daughter, our mother.
Too many of them walk our streets to nowhere
Trapped in a cycle of dependence and peur.

The needle in her vein, her finger on the plunger,
Her eyes stare at the pain, and she goes under.

Fingers

Fingers

From each root come five stems
with nice elongated shape.
Whether they are thick, long, skinny, or short
Critical is their role in our daily lives.

Everyday I look at them in awe.
Despite being different in height and size,
They can still make a fist
and raise a hell of a fight.

They are to us,
what the mouth is to babies.
We stick them in cold, hot, moist,
in places that are unfathomable to the mind.

We get them dirty, greasy, sticky,
and a quick soapy wash turn them clean.
They are my best wingmen,
Always help me deliver.

Thanks to dactyloscopy,
in this world each of us
stands alone, unique, and different
even from our identical twins.

Fever

Fever
By Cassidy Alexandre

Shaking like a Rumba dancer
Underneath the cover
My body is fighting a malaria fever.
At ten years old, my scariest moment ever.

My mother holding my hand
whispered sweet words in my ears.
Like an Angel of Heaven,
Always there to wipe away my tears.

Cold towels on my forehead and neck,
Still my temperature is climbing.
Forcing myself to take those medicines
So I don't become a human wreck.

Just a week has passed,
Already looking like a twig.
Upset watching my brother took a swig
of my favorite juice: Lemonade.

After every day that went by,
I asked:
When would I be able
to play again under the sky.
